How to Build a Pokemon Champions Ranked Team

From zero to a 3v3-ready box: what to pick, what the math does for you, and where the 66 stat points actually go.

Follow along in the builder

Step 1: Pick a win condition

Start from one Pokemon you want to build around, then add partners that cover its weaknesses. Ranked Battles are 3v3, so a box of six with clear roles beats six random favorites.

Step 2: Check the weakness matrix

Paste your picks into the builder and look for attacking types that hit two or more members while nobody resists them. Fix with a switch-in or a resistance type.

Step 3: Patch coverage gaps

Four moves per Pokemon is scarce. Give each member moves that hit the types your team otherwise cannot touch — the builder lists uncovered defending types automatically.

Step 4: Allocate 66 stat points

Champions gives 66 points with a 32 cap per stat. A standard spread is 32 in your main attacking stat, 32 in HP or Speed, and 2 leftover. Use even Speed numbers to win speed ties after nature boosts, odd to lose them on purpose.

Step 5: Set natures and items

Natures are a free +10%/-10% — almost never run neutral. Items are the last free slot: Choice items lock your move but multiply damage; Focus Sash guarantees a turn; Mega Pokemon must hold their Mega Stone.

Step 6: Play the lead, not the plan

Champions matches are decided by switches and information. Bring a lead that can scout, then execute your win condition with the speed tiers from the builder in mind.
